More Heavy Rain!

Sunday, March 28th, 2010 2:02pm UTC

All the watches/warnings have been posted and there will be more to come. Heavy rain is expected in the next 24-48 hours and with the already saturated ground from the past 30 days the water will have no where to go.

Upwards of 3″ of rain has been predicted by some models along with breezy conditions Monday night into Tuesday morning. The red shades in the image show the predicted 3″ swath of rain. This will be a long duration event with some lulls in the action and of course the exact track of the low will have impact on specific location rainfall.

There is light at the end of the tunnel however as sunny and warm conditions will return towards the end of the week. Easter weekend could be some of the nicest weather we have seen in months!!

Break out the Rain Gear!

Tuesday, March 9th, 2010 7:34pm UTC

After some really nice spring like days we are about to pay for it by the bucket load….of rain!!! A storm crossing the country now will tap into some Gulf moisture and converge over the northeast. The rain should start late Friday and come down heavy overnight and into Saturday. There is a slight chance at this time for some convective energy and expect flood watches/warnings.

Just a Touch of Snow!

Tuesday, March 2nd, 2010 8:37pm UTC

Expect some wet snow tomorrow which should not interfere with the morning commute but use caution there could be slippery spots. We may get up to 3 inches on grassy surfaces but the high sun angle should keep the road surfaces just wet. The rest of the week will be seasonable and right now the weekend looks to be decent with sunny sky’s and semi mild temps!

Some Decent Snow Today

Friday, February 26th, 2010 8:04am UTC

The rain is gone only to be replaced by rain. Branford Schools are closed today as the forecast calls for a possible 5 inches of the white stuff. Temperatures dropped off quickly last night as the low pressure system swirls out towards the Atlantic. The low is not going anywhere to fast hence we will have snow and snow showers throughout the day and even the weekend. Use caution on the roads there has already been an accident on Leetes Island Rd. this morning with one injury reported.

The Week Ahead!

Sunday, February 21st, 2010 10:51pm UTC

The forecasters are going crazy with this one as the computer models are all over the place. Simply put this will be a stormy week with what looks like mostly rain along the coast and a chance for plowable snow in the hills and to the north. There just does not seem to be enough cold air in place to deliver snow in any substantial amounts from central CT south. As always keep an eye on the forecast and updates will be posted as needed!

Enjoy the Upcoming Weekend!

Thursday, February 18th, 2010 10:30am UTC

Enjoy this weekend with sunny sky’s and warm temperatures, it looks as though it will be followed by some more winter weather! Saturday temps will be in the mid 40′s and with the sun shining brightly snow will be melting quickly. As we are close to two thirds done with winter the sun angle and daylight hours increase every day! Daylight is fast approaching eleven hours with the sun rising at almost 6:30am and setting at about 5:30pm.

Next week’s weather is another story however, with the possibility of a large storm with substantial snow. Right now the chance of heavy snow is minimal however an eye to the forecast is definitely warranted. Believe it or not the Mid-Atlantic States could end up with another pounding! What is known right now is that chances are high for a storm, the track and the type of precipitation will be hashed out in the upcoming computer models!

Winter Wonderland

Tuesday, February 16th, 2010 2:38pm UTC

About 5 inches of snow so far today and with temps hovering around the freezing mark the snow is sticking to everything like glue. Look for only minor accumulations through the afternoon but the potential of icy roads increases tonight at sunset.

Winter Weather Advisory

Monday, February 15th, 2010 1:39pm UTC

Another Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for Southern New Haven County and a Winter Storm Watch for most of the rest of the State. As with most storms model differences are making the forecast tricky and forecasters are a bit more careful after the last storm’s disastrous outcome.

It looks right now that 2-4″ of the white stuff will fall near the immediate shore with 3-6″ towards the central/northern tier of the State. There may even be some mixing of sleet/rain along the coast, it depends on the winds during the day tomorrow. The rest of the week looks calm so far with seasonable temperatures throughout.
